YouTube thumbnail downloader
Paste a video link and download its thumbnail in every size YouTube generated — up to 1280×720. Or paste a channel link and get its profile picture (up to 1600×1600) and banner. Useful for quoting a video in a post, studying how a cover is built, or grabbing a still when the video itself won't sit still.
The sizes YouTube actually makes
| Size | Where it comes from |
|---|---|
| 1280×720 | The HD thumbnail (maxresdefault). The prize — when it exists. |
| 640×480 | SD version (sddefault). Present on most videos. |
| 480×360 | HQ (hqdefault). Always generated. |
| 320×180 | MQ (mqdefault). Good for small embeds. |
| 120×90 | The tiny default. Mostly useful as a placeholder. |
Every video gets the small ones. The big one — the one worth downloading — only exists when the channel worked in HD. We test each file before listing it, so a size on this page is a size that exists.
How to copy the link
- In the YouTube app: Share → Copy link.
- On a computer: copy the address bar while the video is open.
- Short links (youtu.be) and Shorts links work as pasted.
And the channel's profile picture?
Yes — here. Paste the channel's link (youtube.com/@name, /channel/… or /c/…) and the box reads the channel's own public page and pulls out the profile picture in sizes up to 1600×1600, plus the banner in widths up to 2560 px. No API key and no account: it's the same picture the channel page shows everyone, at full size.
Video links and channel links both work in the same box — the box tells them apart on its own.
Straight answers
- Why is the 1280×720 size missing for this video?
- Because it doesn't exist. Videos uploaded in low resolution, and plenty of older ones, never got an HD thumbnail. YouTube answers those requests with a tiny grey placeholder; we check the actual file and only list sizes that are real.
- Do Shorts work?
- Yes. A Short carries the same set of thumbnails as a normal video — paste its link exactly the same way.
- Can I get the channel's banner too?
- Yes. Paste the channel's link (not a video) and you'll get the profile picture in sizes up to 1600×1600 and the banner in widths up to 2560 px, both pulled from the channel's own public page.
- Whose picture is a thumbnail?
- The channel's. If you're quoting or reviewing the video, that's one thing; re-uploading its thumbnail as your own is asking for a copyright complaint.
