There's a trick — here it is

X (Twitter) profile pictures: the address trick

Tools can't fetch X profiles — the API is paid and locked. But X writes its photo sizes into the image address itself, so two edits by hand get you the big file. Here's the whole trick, free.

Why the box won't help here

Reading X profiles automatically needs X's paid API; anonymous lookups get blocked. But here's the thing the downloader sites don't tell you: if you can see the photo, you can almost always get its big file yourself, because X names its image sizes right in the address.

The trick: change the end of the address

  1. Open the profile on a computer and click the round photo to view it.
  2. Look at the image's address. It ends like this: …_normal.jpg — that file is only 48×48.
  3. Change _normal to _400x400 and reload: same photo, 400×400.
  4. Or delete the suffix entirely, keeping just .jpg: you get the picture as it was uploaded — often bigger still.

Straight answers

Why can't the tool just do this for me?
Doing it automatically means fetching the profile, and X charges for API access and blocks anonymous reading of profiles. The manual trick works because you're already looking at the photo in your own browser.
Does the trick work on banners?
Mostly. The header image on a profile loads from an address ending in /1500x500 — that's the big one. There's no suffix trick, but 1500×500 is a decent size already.
The address ends in .png — does that change anything?
No. The suffix swap works the same: _400x400.png, or drop the suffix for the original upload.
